Work Crew Area Requests due tomorrow

Final Day to submit Work Crew Allocation Request is TOMORROW, OCTOBER 23rd: Please submit here. It takes about 5 minutes. It asks how many spots and what camps. Thanks!!

Leader Screening -Accts expire October 31

I can’t stress how important it is for the safety of our volunteer leaders, the kids we minister to and Young Life as a whole that every leader has completed their background check, faith and conduct and driver’s questionnaire. SO PLEASE GO TO YOUR VOLUNTEER MANAGER BEFORE OCTOBER 31ST and edit the date to either expire old leaders or extend current volunteers for another year. GO TO STAFF/VOLUNTEER ROSTER to make sure that all current leaders are up to date on all their background check, faith and conduct and driver’s questionnaire. Call Shannon if you have questions.

Summer Staff

The summer staff application and recommendation can both be completed online, and we recommend that! The recommendation is hard to get to right now because the field side of campRes is currently offline until November 1st. At this time, if an individual completes an application, the staff person can still access the recommendation form  from the link in the email that is auto generated. If the staff person doesn’t receive that email because of junk filters or if the applicant had submitted the wrong email address for the staff person, they can call us at Camping Services and we can recreate the link for them. As soon as the field side of campRes is back up, an area can log into campRes and see all the applicants that are form their area, as well as complete the recommendations right there.

Being Thirteen

Team WyldLife!
Hope you are a having a great week so far!  I pray that you are feeling encouraged in your WyldLife ministry this week. Thank you for investing in kids!
I wanted to pass on a CNN documentary called “#BeingThirteen”, it is about how 13 year olds are interacting with social media. It was a two year study they did and the results are fascinating! I wanted to pass this onto all of you because this is what we are in the middle of and I think it points to the importance of middle school kids having a WyldLife leader in their life. We have the privliege to be in teh REAL world with kids and speak value and worth into their life and point them to the God of the Universe who loves them and wants a relationship with them.
The documentary is 42 minutes long and is worth your time! I learned alot of new things and gave me insight into social media in a new way. A few questions I have been tossing around with my leaders. What did you learn? Where can WyldLife leaders speak into this issue in kid’s lives? Where can they come alongside kids and use social media in a positive way?
Keep up the good work with WyldLife!
Thanks,
Ellen

Volunteer Leader Accounts expire Oct 31

There edithave been some problems that are connected with Concur and the Volunteer Manager. If you tried to submit your Concur report on the 10th and there is no approval work flow it probably means your approver’s account in Volunteer Manager expired. Please update your Volunteer Manager this month, September, to keep the volunteers on your Staff and Volunteer Roster and those volunteers were listed as Committee and Approvers for your Area, then they were dropped from in Concur as being active approvers and/or card holders.

Please go into Volunteer Manager and update the expirations for all individuals who are still in your Area and grayed out by clicking edit and changing their expiration date manually. Thank you.

Summer Staff Applications

Please send this link to your applicant for the Summer Staff Application. Then you will be sent an email for filling out the recommendation. If you do not get the email, please use the directions below.

Volunteers on Assignment

While we won’t be placing volunteers on assignment teams until November, we are now collecting information on volunteers who would like to serve on Camp Assignment for summer 2015. If you have volunteers in your Area who would like to be on Assignment, HERE is the link to the ‘Volunteers for Assignment’ google doc. We are accepting recommendations now!!

If you would like to request Assignment as part-time staff, please fill out this form. Please complete this request asap.

Summer assignments are where some of the best training is done. You get to see Young Life in action from a number of perspectives. You get to hear from other mission leaders. You get immediate feedback and opportunities for growth. Get your volunteers on an assignment. They will come back as better volunteers.

Thank for having a vision for your people and working to get them on assignment.

Action Item: If applicable, sign up any Volunteers you have who’d like to do Assignment before November 7.

Part-Time Staff on Assignment

Student Staff MalibuYou filled out a Summer Plan form for yourself, but did you have any of your part-time staff, that may want an assignment this summer, have them fill out that form as well?

If you want your part-time staff person (that is anyone that your Area pays, i.e. Teacher Staff, Student Staff, etc.) to have an assignment, then have them fill out a Summer Plan worksheet before Friday. Click here to complete a Google Form to outline the summer 2016 plans and preferences. You will see that the form is from the Division and they will take that information and use it to help determine assignments for this summer.

The hope is that part-time staff have already filled out this form, but we have found in discussion that some have not completed the form.  That created the last minute nature of this request.

Let’s get those people in your Area that want an assignment, on assignment.

My easy secret from Stephen Covey to skyrocket your year-end fundraising

October 8, 2015

2015 is flying by, isn’t it?

If you’re not already planning out your year-end fundraising, there’s no time like now to start.

If you’re old enough to remember when The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, first published in 1989, you’ll love today’s tip. Seven Habits is a business and self-help book written by Stephen Covey, and back in the day it seemed like everyone was reading it. Me included.

Even today, the seven habits serve as solid reminders to all of us:

  1. Be Proactive
  2. Put First Things First
  3. Think Win-Win
  4. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
  5. Synergize
  6. Sharpen the Saw

But Covey’s second habit is the one I want you to focus on today: Begin with the End in Mind.

What does that mean for you as you begin (or continue) plotting out your year-end fundraising? As you’re gathering together the pieces of your direct mail campaign, your online campaign, any events you’ve got going on, your Giving Tuesday campaign (if you’re participating)…where exactly should your focus lie?

Well here’s something that I’ve been doing since my earliest days as a development director (back in 2001): before you do anything, before you write your year-end direct mail package, before you write that email campaign, write your thank you letter.

Yep. In Covey’s words: “Envision what you want in the future so that you know concretely what to make a reality.”

You’ll be amazed at how leading with gratitude helps your entire year-end fundraising campaign to flow.

And to help you get started, I’m delighted to present you with my dear friend Lisa Sargent’s newly updated Better Donation Thank You Letter Checklist (click here to download).

Lisa Sargent has been called “one of the finest fundraising copywriters on the planet.” An award-winning international donor communications specialist who is dedicated to helping her nonprofit clients raise more money and retain more donors, Sargent is most often found behind the keyboard crafting successful direct mail appeals, newsletters, and other retention-driven communications. She is also the Founder of The Thank You Letter Clinic on SOFII.

Hello October

Thoughts from the past weekend:

Above is a picture from of everyone from this past weekend.  For me it was incredible to have everyone together.  JC did an amazing job speaking and Lance and the Guys did a great job leader music.  There is something magical that happens when Young Life staff and leaders get together from all over the region.  It was great to spend time worshiping together as well has having fun together.  I’m blessed by all of you.  I’m excited to see what the Lord is going to do in MT/WY this next year.  I believe great things are in store for all of you.  Thank you for introducing kids to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.

Due Dates

TODAY, OCTOBER 1ST- Staff Summer Plan for AT –As a reminder, the Summer Plan Google Form from the Division is due tomorrow, October 1. Click here to complete a Google Form to outline your summer 2016 plans and preferences. You will find a short series of question regarding your planning for next summer, as well as your Assignment Requests, Summer Camp Trips and other commitments that may effect your schedule.

All full time staff are required to request an assignment. Assignment requests can come from other field staff positions, as well. Final approval of summer plans will come from the Divisional office and your supervisor. The hope would be that with input of your supervisor you will be able to submit a ‘plan’ that would provide the ability to serve, rest and prepare during the summer.

OCTOBER 6- MISSION WIDE DAY OF PRAYER- Please take time to get together with your committee and leaders to pray for your communities and for the mission as a whole. This weeks quick club tip:

New Song Mashups and Chords Download

image

It is that time of year when many of us run to the internet to try to find new club songs. I was on that quest myself when I got an email that saved me loads of time. Musician and YL-music-rescue-man S.Martin contacted me and said, “Sean could you use a bunch of new mashups with chords that I’ve been doing at camps recently?” Ummm…. Yes! The file includes:

Some Nights & Four Five Seconds

Sweet Home Alabama & Fresh Prince of Bel Air

See You Again & Lean On Me

Shut up and Dance & Cheerleader

Shake It Off & We Found Love

Wagon Wheel & Party In The USA

Can’t Feel My Face & Radioactive

Say Something & Just The Way You Are

There are also a few individual songs in the file that might be newer to some. Huge shout-out to S.Martin for saving the day and sharing the love. There is no reason we should have to re-invent the wheel and re-do work that someone else has already done, this frees us up to spend more time doing what no one else can do… build individual relationships with students. Thank you S.Martin for creating more relationship time out there in YL land! As a thank you, at my request, he didn’t even mention it when passing along his work, check out his Twitter and give him some props (@_Spener).

For the file with the mashups, new songs, and chords, CLICK HERE.
